The future of Cornhole in La Canada is bright!
Welcome to the La Canada Cornhole League website. Our origin can be traced back to the local PCY Dads Cornhole tournament hosted annually at Memorial Park to support our local school PTA. PCY Dads was started by Mike Wong, Eric Trimble & Greg Harlan. They graciously helped me start, organize and host the first tournament in 2016. My name is Clay Christensen, a La Canada native, lifelong Spartan and true believer that if curling can become a respected sport, then why not Cornhole? The 5th Annual Mike Wong Memorial Tournament was rudely interrupted by Covid-19 yet our desire to throw bags held strong. Then 8 guys decided to test the waters of breaking quarantine and threw bags on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in late May 2020 in the Warner’s backyard. The idea was sprung and now here I am, sitting alone in my backyard typing my first blog and desperate for the comraderie that Cornhole has provided me for the last 6 years of my life.
At this point ‘League’ seems a bit ambitious but I envision growing the La Canada Cornhole League into a group of like-minded people (men, women and children) who enjoy learning a new game, engaging in friendly competition & conversing with members of our community. I never imagined I would end up raising my own children in the town that I grew up in. But after living for nearly 20 years (post-college) only 2 blocks from where I met my lovely wife, I’ve realized that human connection is the glue that holds us all together. I hope that by forming this league we can provide another healthy outlet for our community to meet, compete and build the connections that define community.
In the end, we all seek that game-ending four-bagger followed by a victory celebration with our teammate as we shake our opponent’s hands (post-quarantine), propose a toast and look forward to our next match & adventure. Let’s all keep striving for that moment.
Until the next frame...
