10th Annual Cornhole Tournament - Results are In!

The DECADE event did not disappoint!

We had perfect weather, a great group of 'regulars' with 4 teams of newcomers. Was great seeing some new faces in the crowd! Jerry & Sean's barbecue skills were on full display with a whole new menu from ribs to try-tip to macaroni salad to chili to garlic bread. I'm getting hungry just writing this. We raffled off a brand new set of high end Cornhole boards which went to Matt Purdy, a fitting winner as he has no boards! I know he will use them to practice to finally break through from former runner up to champion.

And with that, here's a brief game recap:

The tournament timing was efficient, getting the double elimination bracket started by 3:00 PM and finishing by 6 PM. The team of Jason Scherbert and Jeremy Warner made a valiant run through the loser's bracket to meet Clay Christensen and John 'Ibby' Ibsen in the championship game. They promptly gave the Christensen / Ibsen team a beat down in the first game 21-7. But as it was a double elimination bracket, there was a second chance. In the final match, Christensen / Ibsen came out on top in a tight battle with 5 lead changes. Ibby threw the winning bag, pushing another bag into the hole for a net 3 point frame to land on exactly 21 points. The final score, 21-17. This is Clay Christensen's 4th time winning and Ibby's first (I think he is still smiling ear to ear about this finish). Welcome to Jason Scherbert and John 'Ibby' Ibsen to the gold cup drinking privilege at next year's tournament as well as their names being engraved on the legacy trophy. The trophy will return to The Proper in a week or two. Go support our long time supporter for drinks or dinner and take a look!

Mention the cornhole tournament when you go in. It helps to give them the feedback that their support makes a difference to our community.

The net proceeds will go to LC Boosters this year. If you have ideas or businesses you know would be willing to donate, please let me know. I thought 10 years might be the end but with all the love and supportive feedback I have received, I might have to take this one to 11...

The 8th Annual PCY Dads Cornhole Tournament was a great success! It couldn't have been a more beautiful Spring day for a day of Cornhole, music, BBQ, and raffle excitement. Splitting the top teams had a clear impact on improved parity in the run up to the trophy. But in the end, experience won out as two former winners went 1 & 2 with their new teammates. Net proceeds from the event will be donated to the PCY PTA. The future of Cornhole in La Canada is bright!

Welcome to the La Canada Cornhole League website. Our origin can be traced back to the local PCY Dads Cornhole tournament hosted annually at Memorial Park to support our local school PTA. PCY Dads was started by Mike Wong, Eric Trimble & Greg Harlan. They graciously helped me start, organize and host the first tournament in 2016. My name is Clay Christensen, a La Canada native, lifelong Spartan and true believer that if curling can become a respected sport, then why not Cornhole? The 5th Annual Mike Wong Memorial Tournament was rudely interrupted by Covid-19 yet our desire to throw bags held strong. Then 8 guys decided to test the waters of breaking quarantine and threw bags on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in late May 2020 in the Warner’s backyard. The idea was sprung and now here I am, sitting alone in my backyard typing my first blog and desperate for the comraderie that Cornhole has provided me for the last 6 years of my life.
